The Scorch Trails

The Scorch Trails

By: James Dashner
No of  pages: 359
Fave Quote: “No. I kind of accepted it, in a way. That saving you was worth losing what we might've had.”

Blurb: Solving the Maze was Supposed to be the end. No more puzzles and no more running. Thomas was sure that escaping meant we  would get his life back. But no one knew what sort of life they were going back to. Burned and baked the earth is a wasteland its people driven mad by an infection known as the Flare. Instead of freedom Thomas must face another trail. He must cross the Scorch to once again save himself and his friends.

So Thomas and the rest of the Gladers have esp escaped  the maze YAY but wait its not over Teresa is missing there is a new guy called Aris and Now Wicked is making them cross the desert to face nothing but excruciating heat were the people who live there are infected by a disease called the Flare.
The Scorch Trails is the second book in the Maze Runner trilogy it takes place straight after the events in the maze which i love there is no 3 years later thing it take place straight away which is fantastic because you don't get that feeling there are a huge chunks of story missing. I enjoyed reading the Maze runner so I went to my local Libray and picked up my copy of the Scorch Trails again I felt the first half of the book was a slow start so it took me a while to read this book and Dashner took his time building up the Suspense through the first half of this book Thomas is trying to get in touch with Teresa in his mind to no avail making him think that something has happened Dashner makes this the  main part to the first half and all Thomas can think about is what happened to Teresa I think that this kind of takes away more reading time of what the other gladers are doing and thinking because Thomas decisions are based on finding Terasa  and when we do find out that she is still alive she acts a bit weird and tells him to run from her as fast as he can and from that point the story really gets going. The Gladers meet Cranks which are people who live out in the Scorch and have succumbed to the Flare not all have gone crazy Thomas meets Brenda and other Cranks and Thomas befriends 2 a boy and a girl and he promise Brenda that he will get her to the safe place and get the cure that they all want. I love the new caricatures in this book they are so brilliantly written and they blend in well with the other Gladers. The first part is slow so take your time reading it i promise you will get into it but Oh my god the second half of this book hits you like a train literally hits you if you think you have figured out everything think again i was left confused and felt for Thomas i really did because he has no idea what is going on either I love when writers do that when they lure you into a false sense of security and then just as you the reader have made sense of the plot and you think you know in which direction the plot is going Dashner takes it in a total new and exciting turn that makes you want more and more the Maze Runner and The Scorch Trails are thrillers more then they are dystopian. In this book Thomas gets flashback of what happens before he went into the maze so you are finding out what happens as Thomas does and I love that you don't know what happens before the maze you only find out through Thomas slowly getting his memory back and that's why this book is so good the plot is crazy I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed and didn't make a whole load of sense and I hope my questions are answered in the Death Cure.

What is Wicked and will Thomas get the answers he wants. I give this book a Sun blazing 4/5 stars
