The Maze Runner
By: James Dashner
Number of Pages: 371
Blurb: When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas can remember is his first name. But he's not alone He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the glade, an encampment at the center of a bizarre  and terrible maze. Like Thomas the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there or whats happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back they will risk everything to find out even the Grivers, half machine half animal horrors that hunt the maze's walled corridors.
Fave Quote  "Don't worry he whispered, hoping they could hear him. I did it on purpose"

If you are a fan of the Hunger Games and you want to read this book then read this book for how it is not because you love the Hunger Games and you think this is going to be the same. This book is not the Hunger Games its a very different book and its a brilliant read. The Maze Runner follows a guy named Thomas who wakes up in a Metal lift which takes him to this maze and there he walks into a glade in the middle of the Maze and meets the Gladers a group of boys who live there. Thomas and the other boys don't know there story, Age or were they have come from all they know are there names and nothing else. Thomas quickly discovers more about the Maze through the other boys and discovers that they have there own language for things he also discovers that there are a group of boys called Runners and Thomas makes his mind to be a Runner and explore the Maze not only that there are Robotic like Slugs called Grivers that live outside the maze waiting for anyone brave enough to come along, the boys are terrified when a Griver does get them that they will go through the changing. Soon after Thomas arrives A girl comes to the Maze and has a message that she is the last one that's when the story really begins. I loved the dynamic and the friendships in this book when I was reading in my mind this screamed Lord of the flies but in a maze that's what I likened it to, When Teresa arrives she is the only girl in this established group of boys and the boys are scared because they don't know what to make of this girl who comes and Thomas is intrigued as she can communicate with him in his mind and it freaks him out because  he somehow knows this girl but cant remember were. The book is a bit slow in the first part because Thomas is learning about how things work the justice system is cruel to him and it made my stomach turn reading that bit and he is learning how to be a Runner in the Maze the second part of the book really picks up the pace when Thomas discovers that the Gladers have been trying to get out of the Maze for 2 years and the realization that someone or something has put them there for a reason is haunting. The ending of this book is sad and it does end on a cliff hanger you really build a relationship up with Thomas and the others Newt Minho Alby all play a part in helping each other out. I would like to say that i am not a big fan of the main caricature being all brave and Thomas is always the hero when they are in dangerous situations which annoys me. This book does live up to the hype but to compare it to the Hunger Games would be wrong its a different story altogether and the fact its set in a Maze is genius and I think it plays on your fears being trapped in a maze with terrifying creatures and having to survive and not knowing who you are is very original idea. There fore this book gets a Mazetastic 5/5 stars and I can not wait to read the second book of this series.
